ANNUAL GREEN LIVING
SHOW
This
past weekend I headed over to our annual Green Living Show. The show marks its
third year this year in my city, not sure what it maybe in other cities let
alone countries but it’s a wonderful place where you can pickup great ideas for
being green. Every year they have celebrities who are invited to participate.
We
had Bill Clinton last year which was quite impressive. But this year it was
less stellar. I think partly because of us fighting through a recession so the
numbers were low this year. Also the big names did not show this year due to in
part of funding cuts from the big name corporations who are also trying to
survive the downturn. In fact not much caught my eye this year except for two
products which I will go into more detail.
Reflectix
Now
being a
Reno type guy, building
products always seem to make the back of my hair standup and this year was no
exception. This year the product that made me twinge is called Reflectix. The best way I can explain it is it’s a vapor
barrier. Basically its bubble wrap with foil on both sides. You basically place
it over you stud wall as a barrier then place strapping every 4 feet. So you
can place the drywall. It’s that simple and is much cheaper. Literally costs a
few pennies a square foot.
What
this creates is a pocket of dead air which controls the radiant heat from
escaping to the outside. Its wonderful product, for full details go to www.reflectixinc.com. It’s a great
product if you’re either building from scratch or just doing some renovations.
GUS(Greenpower Utility System)
This
one I saw last year but with all the incentives this year by the government on
clean energy. This product seems to be more attractive this year and even more
affordable. What best describes it is a vertical wind turbine, kind of shaped
like twisty pasta similar to Gemelli pasta.
What
makes this turbine quite interesting is it vertical positioning and very little
space it takes up. You just place it on your roof and voila you’re set. What’s
even more amazing is the amount of watts this turbine produces. I suggest going
to the website for full calculations. Check out http://www.tangarie.com for full details.
The
Green Living Show is beneficial in many ways. You can find new and innovative
ways to help the environment and believe it or not ways to save money. Being
green can mean being frugal. So head over to your local green show and absorb
the green culture.
