EATING HEALTHY AND SAVING A BUCK AT THE SAME TIME

One of the best ways you can save money, help the environment and of course eat healthy is prepare your own food fresh. Now I am not talking about buying a meal in a box. You know the prepackaged meals? Oh boy those are the worst, read the back of the box one day and you will understand. Now pickup a fresh broccoli and read the label on the packaging.

Now you may ask, there is no label on the packaging? Let alone some don’t have packaging, well your right, because there is only one ingredient “a broccoli”.  So this is where I am trying to lead you. The fresher and simpler the better it is for you.

Plus sure you say but the packaged stuff tastes so good. Look at the label again they put some flavorings to make it taste good. Let alone the preservatives and additives they put in to mask or protect the food. Now I am not saying that all prepackaged meals are not healthy. Some companies especially the small mom and pop shops are doing the natural thing. But they are far from cooking fresh, although they are getting better.

Let me hit you with another good reason why cooking from scratch is the best for your family and you. Think about the vitamin and minerals perspective. When you are cooking fresh you’re getting a lot more vitamins and plus a few others which are lost in the prepackaged scenario. And my favorite we always add Chia, Flax seed or even fish oil. Which give you Omega 3’s; I can go on forever on this topic. Let’s move to the savings perspective and environment.

When you go out and buy broccoli for instance. And this is where you put on your frugal hat on and try to find the best price. You will notice a broccoli can usually serve for two meals maybe three depends on the size of family and what other vegetable you combine. In my case a family of four it can manage three meals and we combine a cauliflower. And a broccoli where we are go from .79 cents to 1.50$ and add a cauliflower another buck fifty for three meals. Tell me that isn’t cheap and you’re eating healthy! Now you can do this with practically anything fresh. Also you buy 3 boxes of the prepackaged meals you are blowing your budget 3 times over.

Another favorite of mine is buying bulk. But wait buy only what you use. That takes some homework. For example how much rice do you eat a month multiply by 12 and you can purchase the large bags and store it. Rice for example lasts a while. It’s much cheaper in the long run and instead of buying a small bag of rice every month or so. You are only buying one large one. Its amazing what you can save if you think outside the box.

As a person who believes in eating healthy when possible. Our life is short and if we can keep our body clean free from chemicals that are not natural, why not! What I suggest now is read up on healthy eating and other related topics. There are some good cookbooks that teach you to eat natural, healthy eating. Even gardening, to reading up on natural vitamins to boost your immune system, And A lot of good topics to look into. Break free of this packaged life that we live in. Plus fewer packages means less landfills clogged and recycling needed. Now unfortunately I cannot cover it all in this article but I hope at least I got your juices flowing to a healthier, environmentally conscious and frugal life.
