Moving, Great Chance to De-clutter and Appreciate What You Have

With that in mind you start realizing how much stuff you accumulate during the years and start to also realize what is important and what is not. As we were moving the bigger items like furniture into the moving truck we were left with manageable pieces. We slowly helped them go through there life’s assets and then really you start to comprehend how much crap we as human collect. These items were acquired through other people, but most of the time through a purchase of some sort.

By the end of the day we had more stuff going to the dump or to be shipped to goodwill then we had to the new home. To be honest they could have gotten rid of more but they had concerns they may need it. This was a fare assumption since they were starting a new life in the new home and you are not sure what they needed. Sometimes you throw something out that you need then regret it later on? So they decided we can purge again once there.

So off to the dump we went to unload what was no longer required. Once you get there and look at the large bins were you dump this stuff and see a peoples lifetime items in these bins. Then you have a eureka moment as I call it and realize its not worth having a lot of stuff which in time you will either purge or your next of kin will have to deal with it.

It’s just best to have what you need. Everything else is just a burden for your future owners of your assets and to be honest, it’s bad for the environment in time.  What we all need is to realize what is important to us. Let me see if I can explain further  with an example since I am slowly moving in that direction.

More then a few years back my wife and I have realized what was important to us and material ownership was not one of them. With my own childhood we did not spend too much time with our own parents and being so we wanted to provide more memories for our children then our parents did. So when they are much older they can take these memories with them and not a house full of junk. My own childhood we did not do much and what I did do I did appreciate to this day. Our parents were immigrants into this country so they had to constantly work and prove themselves so something had to give way and that was family life.

Now being first generation and being well educated we tend understand our environment better and also realize what is more important which is family and health. That’s why we go on a major family trip every year and small trips during the years. And no we don’t go on extravagant trips. We go camping, see relatives in Europe were we have lodging. The odd time we will do an all inclusive. To be honest it’s the perfect asset. It does not take up space and it stays in memory for ever. What is better then knowing you spent time with your family and it will last a lifetime.

So in a nutshell we need to evaluate our lives and realize what we truly need. Is this years IPOD worth it? Knowing very well there will be a new model in another year? Or spending a weekend at a cottage with your family and/or friends more rewarding? Memories last a lifetime, items don’t.
